Children’s Privacy & Safeguarding

Education Labs AI teaches GCSE, A-Level and comparable courses, so many of our learners are under 18. This policy explains the age rules, what a parent or guardian consents to and controls, the safeguarding measures that apply to live and one-to-one teaching, and how to raise a concern. It supplements our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

• Under 13 — not permitted. The Services are not directed to children under 13, and they may not create an account or use the platform. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, consistent with the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
• Ages 13–17 — permitted with parental consent. A parent or legal guardian must review and accept the Terms on the learner’s behalf, consent to the processing described in the Privacy Policy, and supervise the learner’s use. The parent or guardian is the contracting party for every purchase.
• 18 and over — the learner contracts with us directly.

Digital consent ages vary. In the EEA the age at which a child can consent to information society services without parental authorisation is between 13 and 16 depending on the country; in the UK it is 13. Where the applicable age in your country is higher than 13, parental consent is required up to that higher age, and by allowing a learner to use the Services you confirm you have given it.

If we discover that someone under 13 has created an account, we will disable it and delete the associated personal data promptly, retaining only what we must to record that the deletion happened. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact support@educationlabsai.com with the subject line “PRIVACY REQUEST” and we will act without delay. No verification fee applies and you do not need to give a reason.

We collect the minimum needed to deliver teaching: name or display name, email address, hashed password, courses enrolled in, lesson progress, quiz attempts and scores, certificates issued, bookings made, and technical data such as IP address and device type for security.

We do not, for any learner under 18:

• serve advertising or use advertising cookies or trackers;
• sell, rent or share personal data for targeted advertising;
• build behavioural profiles or use data to train AI models;
• make the learner’s email address or contact details visible to other users;
• ask for sensitive information such as health, biometric or government identifiers.

As the parent or legal guardian of a learner under 18, you may at any time:

• review the personal data we hold about your child;
• ask us to correct anything inaccurate;
• ask us to delete your child’s personal data and close the account;
• withdraw your consent to further processing — after which we will stop processing and close the account, without affecting the lawfulness of what happened before;
• refuse to allow further collection while still permitting us to keep what we already hold;
• ask for a copy of your child’s data in a portable format;
• ask to be present at, or to be informed about, any one-to-one tutoring session.

Email support@educationlabsai.com from an address we can associate with the account, or tell us enough about the account for us to verify the relationship. We may ask for reasonable proof of your identity and relationship before acting, so that we do not disclose a child’s data to the wrong person. We will not condition your child’s participation in a course on giving us more information than is reasonably necessary.

These rules apply to every session involving a learner under 18:

• Sessions stay on the platform. Bookings, scheduling and joining links are handled through Education Labs AI. Tutors must not arrange private sessions or move a learner to a personal channel outside the platform.
• No private contact details. Tutors must not request or give personal phone numbers, private social media accounts or personal email addresses to a learner under 18.
• A parent or guardian may attend. You are entitled to be present for, or in the room during, any one-to-one session with your child, and to ask the tutor beforehand what the session will cover.
• Professional conduct. Sessions must remain on the academic subject booked. Tutors must not discuss inappropriate topics, ask personal questions unrelated to teaching, or request photographs.
• Recording. A session involving a minor may be recorded only where the parent or guardian has been told in advance and, where the law requires it, has consented. Recordings are never published or shared beyond the participants and, where relevant, a safeguarding investigation.
• Instructor vetting. Instructors are reviewed and approved before they can teach, and must confirm that they are entitled to work with children where the law of their location requires a check or clearance. Approval is not a guarantee — see Section 11 of the Terms of Service — which is why the rules above matter.

Report any safeguarding concern to support@educationlabsai.com with the subject line “SAFEGUARDING”. Include what happened, when, who was involved and any session reference. We treat these reports as our highest priority: we aim to acknowledge within 24 hours, will suspend any account involved while we investigate where that is the safer course, and will preserve relevant records.

Where we reasonably believe a child is at risk, we may disclose relevant information to a parent or guardian, to law enforcement, or to a child protection authority, without further consent. In the United States this may include a report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

We keep a child’s personal data only as long as needed to provide the Services, and delete or anonymise it within 90 days of a valid deletion request. Exceptions: records we must retain for tax and accounting purposes, and records connected to a safeguarding concern or legal claim, which we retain for as long as necessary for that purpose and no longer.
